American Solutions for Business is celebrating two dedicated sales associates who recently earned their MASI and BASI certifications! The MASI/BASI certification program is facilitated by our industry organization, ASI (Advertising Specialties Institute), and consists of required course credits followed by a certification exam. MASI stands for Master of Advertising Specialty Information; BASI stands for Bachelor of Advertising Specialty Information. We’re proud to have these bright, hard-working salespeople on the American team and are excited to spotlight them!
How long have you been working toward your MASI?
I’ve been taking classes both online and in person since I completed my BASI in 2015.
What does it mean that you’ve achieved your MASI?
I felt it was very important to get the credential. Since I came into promo with no prior industry experience, I wanted to ensure that there were no gaps in my training. Now I can confidently call myself an expert! I plan to continue attending education sessions to keep up to date with industry developments. Plus, it’s fun to have two master’s degrees in my email signature…HAHA being a nerd is the best!
What advice would you give to ASB sales associates considering the certification?
I highly recommend it! The more you can educate yourself, the better you can position yourself as an industry expert.
How long have you been working toward your BASI?
Since I started about 3 years ago, I’ve been watching videos, reading blogs and learning as much as I can. I was inspired by Kari to finally take the exam, since she just got her MASI .
What does it mean that you’ve achieved your BASI?
I came from a completely different industry and business model. Every term, tool, etc. – everything was new and overwhelming. The first year felt like I was never going to get this print and promotional career down. As I hit my 3 year mark in May, I feel like I actually know something and I’m making a true career now.
What advice would you give to ASB sales associates considering the certification?
If you’re new, learn everything you can. I hear complaints that “there is no training” or “they don’t have time”. There is time. You just need to prioritize it. Honestly, reading an article, blog post or watching a video for 10 to 15 minutes a day will add greatly to your success. Before you Netflix-and-Chill maybe “ASI-or-PPAI” and kill it for your business!
