Our Family Matters Blog shines a spotlight on the invaluable family connections within American Solutions for Business. In this month’s feature, we welcome Deborah Hartley, the daughter of the late sales associate, Roger Church, into the ASB family. Join us as we explore Deborah’s story and get to know her better, as well as a peek into the partnership she will have with her husband as he onboards with ASB.
How did you meet?
Chad: Debbi contacted me over Facebook about a family member that was in the Navy because I am a veteran, and I also had a son in the Navy.
Deborah: We attended the same high school, but only knew each other by name. I reached out to him to answer a military question because military guys know things! We started talking, and never stopped.

How long have you been together?
Deborah: We’ve been together 8 years and married for 5.
How long have you been with American?
Deborah: I was a sub-associate with my father about 20 years ago. I was in the business for about 4 years and had decided to spend my time with my children. When my father became ill back in June, I worked with him to keep things running. Before he died in August, he asked me if I would like to take over the business for him. It had been a thought to come back for a few years, so it was easy to say yes.
How much of your father’s industry knowledge and business experience influenced how you run your business?
Deborah: My father learned the business from the ground up. He started producing foil printed products in-house and discovered how to maneuver his way through custom printing and promos. I greatly admire his tenacity and drive to learn and only hope I can do the same.

What’s the hardest part about working with your spouse?
Deborah: We are so in tune with one another, it is easy to think we discussed something when we haven’t. We are figuring out setting time aside that we aren’t talking shop.

What’s the best part about working with your spouse?
Chad: We collaborate really well together. She is the yin to my yang.
Deborah: We really enjoy each other’s company. We are looking forward to building something together.
Why do you recommend working with family?
Deborah: Family is the one thing that you always have and can depend on. My parents worked together for nearly 30 years with their business. I think it is an honor to both their memories to continue.
