American’s Culture of Giving


The basis of the benevolent culture at American Solutions for Business, lies deep in the heart of the founder and CEO, Larry Zavadil. He and his wife, Diane, have been examples of kindness and generosity from day one. Even when this company was young and struggling, the Zavadils reached out to help others.

This basic belief comes from a statement that is rooted in the ‘Good Book’ and says: “Give and it shall be given onto you…”  There are other versions of this basic philosophy which have been used at ASB when discussing the responsibility and opportunity to give back.

  1. “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
  2. “What goes around, comes around.”

To help our employees become active in the culture of giving, a volunteer team (Community Stewardship) was set up in the early 1990s at the Home Office. Since that time, this team of approximately 10 employees meets regularly to select causes that will be supported during the year.

In 2004, a group of American leaders began building a foundation through which donations could be funneled, and thus, the DreamWeaver Foundation was born. Although it hasn’t yet reached the 501c3 status, it has been active in disbursing funding to charitable causes. The mission of the foundation is to help people overcome adversities so that they can move forward, achieve their dreams and get to a point where they, too can pay it forward.

The largest fundraiser occurs each fall when individuals donate funds in honor of Larry and Diane Zavadil in lieu of purchasing and sending a Christmas gift. Both Home Office Employees and Sales Associates use this means to support individuals and families anonymously during the holidays.

We see examples of this culture of benevolence throughout the company. The act of giving back, paying it forward or whatever you call it, has become part of ASB’s identity. Team members share their expertise, their good fortune and their time in ways that make a difference in our world.  That certainly makes one proud to be an American. Hospital Signage – Success Story


CLIENT: Multi-location Hospital

SITUATION: The hospital was in need of a full installation of interior signage for their new facility on the East Coast. With a quickly approaching deadline, the hospital sent out requests for formal bid proposals along with general specifications and timeline requirements. The hospital administrators were under pressure to align a new source after their initial sign supplier failed to deliver.

T-Shirts to Inspire Hope – Raising Awareness for the Jacob Wetterling Resource Center

As many know, American Solutions for Business is headquartered in the small, quiet town of Glenwood, Minnesota. Nestled in the center of the state, this area is known for its beautiful lakes, friendly people and scenic wilderness. It’s the reason thousands of people flock here for their vacation destination – they associate this area with happy memories.

Sadly, there is another story that is tied to this area, and has shaped the way we think about our families, communities and safety. Like many others, you may remember the heartbreaking story of the abduction and death of Jacob Wetterling in 1989. In response to this tragedy, many of the sex offender laws in place today were established after awareness spread on a national level. After Jacob’s killer confessed earlier this year, the closure for his death has been at the forefront of much media coverage and has spurred an additional push for child safety.


The Jacob Wetterling Resource Center was in need of T-shirts for the #11forJacob Movement and requested American’s help to set up an eCommerce site to quickly fulfill shirt orders. A large portion of these proceeds go to supporting the organization. The account managers for this project were Mike and Mark Jirschele, who remember Jacob’s abduction well. They attribute much of this program’s success to Dubow Textile, an industry decorator, who contributed to the cause by providing special pricing and service to get the orders through as quickly as possible. Jenna Kraemer, the Director of Business Development at Dubow, was instrumental in implementing this program. Being from the St. Cloud area, Jenna was deeply affected by the disappearance, as it happened only 10 minutes from her home.

The Minnesota Wild, a National Hockey League team,  wanted to support the Jacob Wetterling Resource Center and purchased several shirts to spread the word. Much of this was encouraged by star player, Zach Parise, and his wife, who donated $11,000 to the cause.

Leveraging Integrated Marketing to Reach Digital Dealership Customers

AdobeStock_85183610.jpgIn the last decade, the vehicle purchasing journey has evolved tremendously and dealerships have been hard at work developing strategies to enhance their online presence. A 2015 survey of 10,000 consumers by Accenture revealed that:

  • 80% of drivers seeking to purchase a new vehicle use digital technology in their search
  • 62% initiate their vehicle buying process online

Many dealerships utilize SEO (search engine optimization), paid digital advertising and social media strategies to connect with both existing and potential customers. However, when using traditional methods, such as direct mail, to reach out to the consumer they miss an opportunity to combine the two facets of vehicle purchasing into one harmonious experience.

Integrated Marketing utilizes tools such as QR codes or Augmented Reality to direct your customer to your online platforms. For example, a dealership sending out a direct mail piece highlighting deep discounts on current inventory may include a QR code that, when scanned, brings the customer directly to the inventory page of the dealership’s website. This not only conveniently completes the first few steps of the online car buying journey for the consumer, it also helps to ensure that the dealership is the first (and possibly the only) site visited.

Integrated marketing can also be used for advertising Service and Parts specials. A direct mail piece containing oil change, seasonal preparedness or tire specials could include a call-to-action trigger that brings the consumer straight to the online service appointment scheduler. Of course, direct mail is not the only medium in which Integrated Marketing can be delivered. Promotional items, print advertising, and daily stock items such as dispatch hang tags can also be used to increase the likelihood that your online presence will be top of mind.
